Bit Hobble with Horsehair Shoefly Curb Strap from Martin Saddlery and Classic Equine.
Made of latigo leather, rawhide and horsehair. Bit hobbles are used for many reasons. They prevent pulling the ringed bits through the side of the horse’s mouth and help to stabilize the bit and keep it centered. For one-handed riding, they help to stabilize longer shanks and can add be adjusted to add more pressure for precision. They also help to protect the horse's mouth while roping by preventing the rope from getting between the shanks and catching one side, forcing one shank up and out.
